Programs & Courses

We offer three comprehensive training programs designed for different career goals and time commitments:

  • Complete Marine Technician (12 weeks): Our most comprehensive program covering outboard, inboard, and diesel engines plus electrical systems, fuel systems, and advanced diagnostics. Perfect for those seeking complete marine engine competency.
  • Outboard Specialist (6 weeks): Focused training on 2-stroke and 4-stroke outboard motors from 25HP to 350HP. Ideal for recreational boat service careers or starting your own mobile service business.
  • Diesel Engine Pro (8 weeks): Advanced program specializing in marine diesel engines including mechanical and electronic injection systems, turbochargers, and commercial vessel applications.

All programs emphasize hands-on workshop time working with actual engines under expert instruction.

No prior mechanical experience is required for our programs, though it can be helpful. Our Complete Marine Technician and Outboard Specialist programs start with fundamental concepts and progress systematically to advanced topics.

Many successful graduates came from completely different backgrounds – business, retail, hospitality – and built thriving marine careers. Our instructors excel at teaching foundational skills while also challenging students with existing mechanical knowledge.

The Diesel Engine Pro program does assume basic mechanical aptitude and benefits students who have some engine or mechanical background, whether automotive, industrial, or marine.

Upon successful completion of your chosen program, you'll receive:

  • Marine Engine Masters Certificate of Completion: Recognized by major marinas, boat dealers, and marine service facilities throughout Malaysia and Southeast Asia.
  • Malaysian Marine Industry Association (MMIA) Endorsement: Our programs are accredited by MMIA, adding industry credibility to your certificate.
  • Program-Specific Competency Certificate: Documenting the specific systems and procedures you've mastered.

Graduates are also prepared to pursue additional manufacturer-specific certifications from brands like Mercury, Yamaha, Volvo Penta, and others, which many employers require or strongly prefer for warranty work authorization.

Our programs run Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, combining classroom theory with hands-on workshop practice. A typical day includes:

  • Morning Session (8:30 AM - 12:00 PM): Theory instruction covering engine systems, diagnostic procedures, and technical concepts. Interactive format with demonstrations and discussions.
  • Afternoon Session (1:00 PM - 5:00 PM): Hands-on workshop time applying morning concepts to actual engines. Students work individually and in pairs on diagnostic exercises, maintenance procedures, and repair projects.

Class sizes are limited to 8 students maximum, ensuring personalized attention and ample hands-on time. This small group format allows instructors to adapt to individual learning pace and provide focused guidance.

Currently, all our programs are full-time, in-person training. Marine engine service requires extensive hands-on practice that cannot be replicated online. Working directly with engines under expert supervision is essential for developing the practical skills employers demand.

We understand full-time commitment can be challenging. However, our relatively short program durations (6-12 weeks) and high job placement rates (95% within 60 days) mean most graduates recoup their investment quickly.

For students facing financial constraints, we offer payment plans and can connect you with educational financing options. Please contact our admissions team to discuss your specific situation.

Technical Questions

Absolutely. Modern marine engines feature sophisticated electronic controls, and proficiency with these systems is essential for today's marine technicians. Our curriculum extensively covers:

  • Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI): Operation, diagnosis, and repair of EFI systems used in outboard and inboard gasoline engines
  • Engine Management Computers: Understanding computer controls, sensor systems, and actuators
  • Diagnostic Scan Tools: Hands-on practice with manufacturer scan tools retrieving trouble codes, viewing live data, and performing bi-directional controls
  • Diesel Electronic Controls: Modern common-rail diesel injection, electronic governors, and emissions controls
  • Electrical Diagnostics: Circuit testing, voltage drop testing, and identifying electrical problems using multimeters and specialized test equipment

You'll graduate comfortable working with modern computerized engines while also understanding traditional mechanical systems still common in the field.

Yes, emerging technologies including hybrid and electric propulsion are covered in our programs. While traditional internal combustion engines remain the industry standard, hybrid and electric systems are growing, particularly in yacht and commercial applications.

Our Complete Marine Technician program includes modules on:

  • Hybrid propulsion system concepts and components
  • Battery systems and management
  • Electric motor operation and service
  • Power electronics and inverters
  • High-voltage safety procedures

We maintain a hybrid propulsion demonstration unit for hands-on familiarization. As these technologies become more prevalent, we continuously update curriculum to reflect industry adoption.

Technicians with hybrid/electric experience command premium compensation as these systems become more common. Early expertise in emerging technologies provides competitive career advantages.

Our programs emphasize hands-on practical experience while providing necessary theoretical foundation. The typical balance is:

  • 40% Classroom Theory: Engine operation principles, diagnostic methodologies, technical information, and supporting knowledge
  • 60% Hands-On Workshop: Actually working on engines performing diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs under instructor supervision

This hands-on emphasis reflects our philosophy that marine technicians learn best by doing. Morning classroom sessions introduce concepts, then afternoon workshop sessions immediately apply that knowledge to actual engines.

As programs progress, workshop time increases. By the final weeks, students spend most of their day working independently on diagnostic and repair projects with instructors available for guidance rather than constant direction.

Small class sizes (maximum 8 students) ensure everyone gets substantial hands-on time. You won't spend your workshop time watching – you'll be working directly on engines.

Our training provides comprehensive foundation that applies across all marine engine brands. While specific procedures vary between manufacturers, fundamental principles of operation, diagnosis, and repair are universal.

You'll graduate with:

  • Cross-Brand Knowledge: Exposure to Mercury, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki outboards; Caterpillar, Cummins, Volvo Penta, Yanmar diesels; and various inboard systems
  • Transferable Skills: Diagnostic methodologies and repair procedures that apply regardless of brand
  • Technical Resource Usage: How to effectively use service manuals, technical bulletins, and manufacturer resources
  • Adaptation Ability: Confidence to work on engines you haven't specifically trained on by applying fundamental knowledge

Many employers then provide brand-specific training for their primary product lines. Your Marine Engine Masters foundation makes brand-specific training much easier and faster to absorb.

For warranty work authorization, manufacturers typically require brand-specific certification. Graduates are well-prepared to pursue these certifications and often do so through their employers.
